There are several reasons we do email/phone and VPN checks. The main  reason is compliance with laws and regulators in Australia. The second  reason is to prevent misuse of our service. Before we enabled VPN/proxy  detection, we had a "hacker" create 162 accounts within a few hours for example. You can read the full story about that here. The VPN check only happens during the activation of your first XSKey. Once that's done, you can connect from anywhere.

To resolve the problem, you can try to connect differently. For instance, try a different WiFi, or try using your phone as a hotspot for your laptop. Keep in mind that office-networks often use redirected internet-connections for their workstations, in that case you can try it from home instead.

The following browsers and plugins interfere with the secure connection needed to generate your XSKey:

- Data Compression Proxy (plugin)
- Dolphin Browser (browser)
- Google Data Saver Beta (plugin)
- Network Bandwidth Saver (plugin)
- Opera with Opera Turbo mode enabled (browser)
- SkyZIP (plugin)
- UCBrowser (browser)
- Yandex Browser (browser)

If you use one of those, follow these steps to generate your XSKey:
Use another browser to login to your account (you can switch back later)

1. Click the red key-symbol in the top-right of the screen
2. Click the "Add XSKey" button in the prompt to generate your XSKey
3. Go to the Account tab
4. Find your original browser in the list of devices and click its "Add XSKey" button to copy your XSKey there

Now use your original browser to login to your account:
1. The key-icon in the top-right should now be blue to indicate you have the XSKey

Optional:
2. Remove the device used in step 1-4 from the Account-tab (use the trashcan-icon)

We understand this an inconvenience for you, but we hope you understand why we need to be thorough about this. If you can't seem to resolve it, please reach out to us. We're here to help!
